“I love puzzles.  And when you put that final piece of the puzzle into place it’s such a satisfying feeling.  Equally though, the process of putting the pieces together and building up a picture is enjoyable in itself.  When I think about my working career it’s clear that my focus has always centred around bringing pieces of puzzles together.  Building a picture for senior management or clients, and seeing that “aha!” moment is what it’s all about for me.  I never felt like I was your “typical” accountant though.  Month end reporting for the sake of month end reporting, trotting out the same numbers month after month.  There was always a piece missing.  It took me a while to find it, but when I did, it had a powerful and instant impact.  I’m talking about data analysis. I started showing management things about their business that they hadn’t seen before. The traditional finance function focuses so much on, well, finance, that they’re blind to other sources of data that can have a tremendous impact on decision making and the direction of the business.  It’s my passion to help small businesses have access to the world of a new, data-driven finance function that can help them drive growth, drive change and drive their business forward.”
